We just got home from THE best hockey game any one of us has ever seen. We were up, we were down, and then we were higher than we've ever been. 5.4 seconds left to go in the game, down by a goal, it just doesn't get much more clutch, heart clutching that is. To watch the clock tick down on our gold medal dream, to think we may have to qualify this long trip by saying things like "it was a good effort" and "the guys worked hard" but still not see OUR Canadian team, our flag, our boys in the finals, disappointed and unfulfilled do not do it justice. Then the hockey gods shone down once again on our, dare I say destiny team? Mrs. Eberle's son decided to take this team, this country, and carry them somewhere we have become accustomed to, and somewhat arrogantly come to believe is our birthright. GOLD MEDAL GAME!
Screw that this our game and our birthright
The rink was electric and the the outcome was never in doubt once this game got to overtime. The Russians were a team becalmed, the wind was gone from the sails and Canada simply turned on the jet drive and motored to that spectacular finish.
Here are some pics from the game and one with our new friends Tomislav (yeah, we know it's your real name Tommy) and Jay, down for the night and so happy to have picked these games to attend.
Tomorrow is Montreal and preparation for the medal games on Monday and dare I say, a return home which is being favourably contemplated by all.

So it looks like you got the birthday present you were hoping for!
Obviously this birthday will be very memorable.
Cheers to a good time and more celebration on Monday.
Love ya all

Hey guys...thanks for the props (as my kid says...not sure what that means) about the magical phone call. Must've worked both ways, the Wings were down early but came back strong at the Classic and we enjoyed the day there as a result. Just got back to the PC, so no additional phone calls made but perhaps that one brief convo was enough for the entire tournament! Personally, I think we need to give Chrysler Canada a shout out for allowing you guys to take such an extended 'vacation', considering that Canada still has one big win to go and it's already January 4th! We'll look for you on TSN tomorrow...please do something stupid Vic, so we can find you :) Keep up the dialogue, Go CANADA! Rich
Happy Birthday, Terry! I'll bet that last night's game is right up there with the "birth of children"!!
Folks were flying off the couches at the Beatty residence last evening, although sadly, Mike's leaping was "girl-like", as quoted by Cheryl!
I'm so enjoying reading your blog posts and thereby sharing a little in your trip of a lifetime! We'll all be watching on Monday night so keep wearing those absolutely ridiculous pants! We've been trying hard to spot you and Kyle in the sea of red and white!
Allez les Canadiens!
